Apr 20, 2019Sophie, who was known by her family and friends as ?Sue? was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Voyak) Gulas. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and moved to Poland in 1955. Sophie worked in the credit office for Strouss? Department Store in downtown Youngstown for four years and after the birth of her daughter became a dedicated homemaker. Sophie was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. She enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, dancing with her husband, and going on cruises with her daughter. Her husband, Attilio ?Sax? Colaluca, whom she married Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Matthias Church, preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2017. Sophie is survived by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law James Varga of Poland, with whom she made her home; two grandsons, James (fiancée Megan Pingley and her son, Noah) Varga and Matthew Varga. In addition to her parents and husband, Sophie was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Varga. Per Sophie's requests, private funeral services will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Varga officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family would like to give special thanks to Hampton Woods Rehabilitation Center, Akeso Home Health, Grace Hospice, and all of the caregivers for the love, care and support they gave to Sophie and her family during this time. Sophie was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family deeply. Her beautiful smile and wonderful disposition will be greatly missed.
